About the event

For New and Experienced Community Organizers!

Here’s an opportunity for you to learn and be inspired in your community work in a whole new way! Madison Arcatao Sister City Project (MASCP) is sponsoring the free workshop, “The Essential Role of Community Organizing in National Change.”

Leaders of the workshop will be two Salvadoran community organizers, Cintia Gonzalez and Zulma Tobar—veterans of the struggle to ban metallic mining town by town, region by region until in March of this year, El Salvador banned metallic mining nationwide declaring it too dangerous for their fragile environment and water resources.

Cintia and Zulma will facilitate the workshop in the interactive style called “popular education.” Popular education is grounded in notions of class, political struggle, and social transformation. It is an active learning process that raises social awareness; stimulates critical and creative thinking and has been a critical part of community organizing and social change…
